please take a shower...

i always wondered why i was supposed to shower before i got into the pool?

it is another one of those things that never made sense to me. like when i told the teacher at school that i didn't know how to spell a word, and she would tell me to look it up in the dictionary. i always wondered, how could i look it up if i didn't know how to spell it. but i digress.

of course if you were dirty or needed to rinse off for some reason i understood that, but if you were perfectly clean and had just taken off your clothes, why would you have to shower.

today i learned that it is not because you are dirty but it helps remove body oils, lotions, deodorant, and hair chemicals from the body. these products pollute the pool water and require additional maintenance to keep the pool clean and hygienic.

but the more important reason you should want to is that a pre-swim shower can benefit your skin and hair. our skin and hair are like sponges. if they are fully hydrated, they cannot absorb much water; however, if they are dry, large amounts of water will be absorbed into the cells. showering before climbing into the pool assures hair and skin will not be able to absorb as much of the pool water and the potentially drying chemicals it contains.

for your body's sake shower first before you jump into all those chemicals.

today i swam for one and a half hours. it was very relaxing. i was 208 getting close to my goal. i can totally make 200 by may, i have another whole month.
i only drank 90 ounces of water
i had some of my granola mix 1/4 cup
i had a montery salad with spinach, romaine, chicken, artichoke hearts, red onions, egg, and tomato
1/4 piece of white bread that was disgusting
5 ounces of teriyaki glazed salmon with macadamian nuts. way too sweet
a few bites of rice pilaf
some cauliflower & broccoli 1/4 cup
a few crackers with some hummus
1/4 of a turkey sanwich
